STEMpire will teach women and girls in Palestine the skills of creating digital innovations and encourage them to start their own digital businesses. The Lithuanian digital technology association "Infobalt", together with "STEMPIRE powered by PALMEC International, will transfer knowledge and competencies and organize a hackathon of challenges that will help develop practical problem-solving skills using digital technologies.

"I believe that the young generation of business creators is the main pillar of Palestinian development and will ensure that technological solutions for the international market will also be developed in our country." We are happy with this hackathon. I believe that it is essential for business women to gain experience and knowledge from international experts," says Dr. Ishaq Sidr, Palestinian Minister of Telecommunications and IT.

"Lithuania and Palestine consistently strengthen mutual relations, especially in economy and culture. This project will bring Lithuanian and Palestinian technology experts together and will serve the main goal - cooperation and joint creativity between the Lithuanian and Palestinian innovation communities", emphasizes Bertas Venckaitis, head of the Lithuanian representation in Palestine.

Only about 20 percent of women in Palestine participate in the labor market. This is lower than the regional average and much lower than the global female employment rate of 48%. However, women and girls in Palestine make up most of the students in many colleges and universities in the West Bank and Gaza. However, despite having a relatively high level of education, it is often difficult for them to enter the labor market due to various barriers.

The project implemented by Infobalt and STEMpire aims to strengthen the involvement of women in the labor market in the field of technology, whether they are studying or already working and want to retrain. Its participants will be provided with knowledge about the principles and methods of creating digital products that solve real problems for the market and consolidate them; the teams will solve the challenges presented by the partners of the project organizers and give the achieved results. It is expected that the project will help strengthen their technological entrepreneurship, open up new opportunities to become creators of independent digital businesses, and establish relationships with innovative digital technology businesses of the European Union countries, primarily startups and their development ecosystems.

"This Lithuanian-Palestinian joint hackathon is an excellent model for encouraging and empowering Palestinian women to participate more in the technology sector and create their businesses. Hackathon participants will learn from international experts how to create solutions that solve the daily challenges of Palestine. I believe this hackathon will be a good start in creating a structured chain connecting education and business to help women participate more actively in the technology market", says Mona Demaidi, Founder of STEMpire.

"This is an opportunity to create new educational and business ties between Lithuania and Palestine and to establish contacts with the innovation ecosystem, demonstrating the competencies available in Lithuania and sharing the experience of developing digital products with fast-learning, innovative students, future Palestinian entrepreneurs, and leaders. From our experience in the dynamically growing digital sector, we have noticed how much value such hackathons, where young people learn to solve real problems and implement their ideas in concrete projects, bring to businesses and the country as a whole in the future," says Andrius Plečkaitis, Head of Education projects at Infobalt.
